Galvanometer Systems
The second, automated laser support machine is called a Galvanometer, or “Galvo” laser machine. These machines use a stand still beam focused in a variety of directions to create the finished product. It moves from one end to the other with adjustments to mirrors located around the specific cutting area, typically 4’ by 4’. The Galvo systems are about 5 to 10 times quicker than Gantry Machines depending on the engraving, high speed marking, and thinness of material. A galvanometer is typically used for cutting paper, thin plastics, and fabrics, where as a Gantry machine would be used for stronger metal materials.
